Eleven more fantastic storytellers told their personal stories about homelessness at “Stories About Home,“ Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Seattle University, a partnership with The Seattle Times Project Homeless and The Seattle Public Library.
A full house of ~400 people listened to the stories, told in the Ignite style of 20 slides, 15 seconds per slide, and heard from performance artists Yirim Seck and Karen “KT” Taylor. Storytellers were, in order of appearance: Bobbi Jenkins; Michael Brooks; Mark Toner; Caireanna Mills; Cavan O’Grady; Jordan Iverson; Krystal Marx; Ava Levine; Mindy Woods; David Sorrentino; and Nikki Gane. The enchanting Davida Ingram of The Seattle Public Library served as our emcee. Thanks to The Seattle Channel for recording the video.
This was our second annual storytelling community event with The Seattle Times. At last year’s “Ignite Project Homeless,” we heard nine more moving, informative, myth-busting and entertaining personal stories about homelessness. The success of that event paved the way for this year. Check out those stories too!
Thanks to all the partners who helped us recruit storytellers, to our storytellers and performers and to Davida for her wonderful work as emcee. Thanks too to Hayden Bass, children’s librarian from the Montlake branch of The Seattle Public Library, for pitching in to provide childcare at the last minute!
