Affordable Housing Week 2018

Affordable Housing Week 2018, May 14-18, saw dozens of cities and a record number of colleges and universities in King County uniting to declare their support for affordable housing. It was the third annual event, hosted by our partner Housing Development Consortium.  Here’s the proclamation signed by SU President Steven V. Sundborg, S.J.declaring May 14-18 Affordable Housing Week at Seattle University! Our student team even produced a documentary about the Central District to commemorate the week; scroll down for details.

University Partners: We were pleased to be joined again by Seattle Pacific University, who again declared Affordable Housing Week on campus, and we welcomed for the first time Highline College and University of Washington. Read the joint announcement news release  about why universities are supporting this important effort.

County-Wide Events: Check out the list of events around the county, including the May 14 kickoff, noon at SEIU 775.

SU’s Campus Event: At SU, we hosted a May 15 screening of a documentary created by our project assistants, “Central Division,” about gentrification in Seattle’s Central District and how the university may play a role. An audience discussion with special guests followed. Read the recap and watch the film here!

Our AHW Legacy: We’ve been on board since the beginning; in fact, our then-digital design assistant, Amy Phung, created the logo!

For a look back at how our campus recognized Affordable Housing Week in previous years, check out this recap by last year’s digital design assistant, Mandy Rusch.
